Active since 2005, BEPA is a joint programme of the German Cooperation with Afghanistan implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Swiss Development Cooperation (DEZA). Together with the MoE in Kabul and the education departments in the provinces, BEPA aims at establishing a sound foundation for teacher training in Afghanistan.
Translating written materials from English into Dari and Pashto and vice versa;
Editing and proofreading of GIZ BEPA working documents from English into Dari and Pashto and from Dari and Pashto into English;
Ensuring the timely delivery of translated and edited materials in the required languages;
Accompanying BEPA staff to various locations within Afghanistan, especially the Northern Provinces for the purpose of providing translation services;
Working with time table and update involved colleagues on its status regularly;
Participation on meetings and translate messages simultaneously or consecutively from English into Dari and Pashto and if required, from Dari and/ or Pashto into English orally, maintaining message content, context, and style as much as possible;
Ensuring high quality of work with Dari/Pashto translations reflecting an accurate portrayal of the meaning found in the English source documents;
Translating working papers for meetings, reports, letters and other documents mainly from English into Dari and Pashto and if required, from Dari and/ or Pashto into English;
Ensuring dual simultaneous translation if required during the field works and in workshops, trainings, project steering committees etc.;
Ensure high quality Editing of documents (literature, spelling, grammar and all kinds of corrections) in Pashto and Dari;
Using accepted glossary for correct and endorsed terminologies in translations;
Checking and revising all documents translated by freelance translators hired by GIZ;
Maybe assigned to individual tasks related to program implementation and program administration.
Carry out any other task as requested by the management;
Bachelors in linguistics Degree or equivalent professional qualification in translation; or
degree in education/social sciences/sciences
Requires fluency in English, Dari and Pashto languages.
Proven experience in translation work;
Proven experience in editing of documents;
Exceptional writing and editing skills;
Confident communication and presentation skills;
Strong organizational and time-management skills
Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines
Minimum work experience 5 years
Other experiences and skills:
Proven working knowledge of IT technologies (related software, phone, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office);
Willingness to skill up as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management.
