The Afghan-German Cooperation’s programme for the promotion of good governance in Afghanistan (RCD) has recently supported a variety of projects in the provinces Balkh and Kunduz that benefit many residents. One example: 50 female university graduates were supported to participate in internship programmes to gain work experience, improving their employability and female participation in public institutions. Additionally, seven semi-deep wells now provide potable water to 350 families in Balkh. The German government financed both activities at a total cost of about AFN 3 million (3,000,000).

Today, three female legal practitioners presented their professions, educational background and career path to 90 female law students. The career conference at Balkh University was organised by the Afghan-German Cooperation’s project for the promotion of the rule of law (RoL) and the Sharia and Law faculties of Balkh University.

Yesterday, the groundbreaking ceremony for a flood protection wall took place in the district Feyzabad, Badakhshan. The governmental line department Kokcha River Sub Basin Agency and the Afghan-German Cooperation’s programme the Regional Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) coordinated and implemented all construction activities. The German government finances the construction works at a total cost of about AFN 136.84 million. More than 50,000 residents will directly benefit from the wall.

15 managers and directors from the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP) and its provincial directorates participated in a networking visit to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Topic: exchanging experiences, challenges, opinions, ambitions and successes when it comes to integrating gender policies in the mining sector. The activity was funded and organised by the Afghan-German Cooperation’s project Promoting Good Governance in the Extractive Sector in Afghanistan”, supported by the German Cooperation in Kyrgyzstan.

In Badakhshan, three infrastructure projects in the districts Yaftal-e Payan, Darayem and Argo were completed. These projects include the construction of a bridge, a protection wall as well as the rehabilitation of an irrigation canal. The Afghan-German Cooperation’s programme Regional Capacity Development (RCD) funded the three activities at a total cost of over AFN 5 million. More than 15,000 Afghans will benefit from all activities.

11 experts of the Afghanistan Geological Survey and three lecturers of Kabul Polytechnic University (KPU) attended a three-week field training in geosciences in Yazd, Iran. Now, they returned to Kabul. The Afghan-German Cooperation’s programme Academic Mining Education in Afghanistan supported three KPU-lecturers to participate in this training. This is one of many activities organised by the Afghan-German Cooperation to help to strengthen international cooperation between universities, state institutions and donor operations in the Afghan mining and geology sector.

Yesterday, the “Women Weekend Market“, a three-day business exhibition for women, started at Kabul University. It will last until Thursday, 9th October. The show provides a platform to more than 40 women to sell their products and to do business in Afghanistan. The Afghan-German Cooperation’s programme for Sustainable Economic Development and Employment Promotion (SEDEP) organised and funded the bazaar and the exhibitor’s support.

Yesterday, the Ministry of Energy and Water (MEW), the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) as well as the Afghan electricity supplier Da Afghanistan Bereshna Sherakat (DABS) inaugurated the new Database Management System for the Afghanistan Energy Information Portal (AEIP). This database will help stakeholders to track relevant information in the field of energy and thus potentially increase sector opportunities. The Afghan-German Cooperation’s programme for institutional development for energy in Afghanistan (IDEA) organised and financed setting up the database for the ministry at a total cost of more than AFN 3 million.

About 35 participants from the Afghanistan Independent Bar Association (AIBA), the Ministry of Justice, the High Office of Oversight and the International Bar Association attended the event. The Afghan-German Cooperation’s programme for the promotion of the rule of law in Afghanistan (RoL) and the International Bar Association supported the workshop technically and financially.

Yesterday, Badakhshan’s Department of Public Health (DoPH) and citizens from Tagab district celebrated the new health clinic’s (CHC) opening in the district’s capital. The new building will help local health workers to provide better health services to the 27,000 citizens living in the district. The DoPH and the provincial governor’s office jointly implemented the project. The Afghan-German Cooperation funded the building’s construction and rehabilitation at a total cost of around AFN 29 million.
